Cookie Manufacturer Saves US$80,000+ Annually by Reducing Labor with Automated Spray System
Problem:
A family-owned manufacturer of traditional baked products needed to improve the efficiency of its cookie line. A flat sheet conveyor needed an even coating of release agent to prevent cookies from sticking during baking.
The previous method of applying the release agent was very labor intensive and wasteful. Workers used towels to wipe the release agent onto the moving conveyor. This process not only used an excessive amount of release agent and created a mess, it also posed a worker safety concern.
Solution:
An AutoJet® Model 1550 Modular Spray System with a 98250 spray manifold from Spraying Systems Co. has solved the coating problem. Four AA250AUH automatic spray nozzles spray a fine coating of release agent across the full width of the 39” (991 mm) conveyor as it passes the spray manifold. The 80° flat spray patterns provide even coverage without any overspray. The AA250AUH nozzles are hydraulic so no mist is created.
Results:
The AutoJet® Modular Spray System maintains a consistent application rate of release agent on the conveyor. The manufacturer no longer uses manual labor for the process, saving almost US$3500 per month. Release agent consumption has been reduced by about 25% and scrap due to stuck cookies has also been significantly reduced. Total savings are estimated at more than US$80,000 annually, providing a payback period of less than one month for the investment in new spray equipment.
