Hydraulic Cooling

For continuous casting cooling with larger drops, hydraulic nozzles from Spraying Systems Co. deliver. Our hydraulic cooling solutions, are meticulously designed to optimize thermal management in steel mills. Built from durable materials, our nozzles are crafted to ensure uniform cooling, reduce thermal stress, and prevent defects.

Why Hydraulic Cooling is Essential

Hydraulic cooling is vital in continuous casting. By effectively managing heat transfer, defects are prevented and thermal stress is reduced. Even cooling distribution across slabs, billets, blooms, and beams, ensure smooth solidification, improve steel quality, and minimize production interruptions.

brass HHX FullJet spray nozzle

Precision Cooling with HHX FullJet® Nozzles

HHX FullJet nozzles are designed for continuous casting machines, especially for billet products. They provide superior spray distribution, ensuring uniform cooling across the steel surface and better coverage than conventional full cone nozzles. Adjustable spray angles allow for flexibility in cooling, adapting to different line speeds and steel grades, without moving manifolds. Built for durability, the staked vane design withstands high heat and vibration, while the socket design ensures easy installation and maintenance with standard tools.

  • Superior spray distribution compared to conventional full cone nozzles.

  • Full range of spray angles and capacities – change cooling parameters without the need to move manifolds.

  • Staked vane stays in place, withstanding high heat and vibration to ensure a consistent spray pattern.

  • Socket design provides for easy installation and maintenance with standard tools.

  • Low-profile design allows nozzles to sit close on the header, to prevent debris from collecting or falling on the nozzle.

Rectangular FullJet® Nozzles: Versatile Solutions for Cooling

The rectangular FullJet® nozzles offer versatile cooling solutions with two distinct spray tip options to meet specific needs. The 25381 spray tips generate a thick, rectangular spray pattern with a smaller orifice, which minimizes fluttering and maximizes cooling efficiency. These tips are widely used in upper section cooling for slab, billet, and bloom casting, providing even cooling across larger surface areas. Meanwhile, the D41539 Spray Tips are ideal for billet and bloom cooling, offering precise and efficient cooling tailored to smaller steel shapes. Their targeted spray reduces the risk of surface defects, ensuring consistent product quality.

Key Features of Hydraulic Cooling Solutions

Our hydraulic cooling nozzles are designed to deliver high-quality cooling performance in the rigorous environment of continuous casting. One of their core strengths is spray pattern flexibility, offering options such as full cone, rectangular, and flat sprays. These diverse patterns provide controlled and uniform cooling across the steel surface, making them suitable for slabs, billets, blooms, and beams. The superior spray distribution ensures that every part of the steel receives consistent cooling, effectively reducing thermal stress and minimizing defects.

  • Durability for Demanding Environments
Durability is essential for nozzles used in steel mills, where operatingconditions are harsh and temperatures are extreme. Our nozzles can beconstructed from high-quality materials such as brass, 303 stainless steel, 316 stainless steel or plastic variations. These materials are chosenfor their resistance to corrosion and wear, so nozzles can withstand the intense environments without degradation. This durability translates intolonger-lasting performance, reducing the need for frequent replacements and keeping maintenance costs low.

  • Operating Pressures for Stable Cooling
One of the standout features of our hydraulic nozzles is their ability to operate at a wide range of pressures, up to 300 psi (20 bar), depending onthe model and application. This broad pressure range ensures that cooling efficiency remains stable, even when casting speeds and operatingconditions fluctuate. The ability to maintain consistent cooling across different stages of the continuous casting process is crucial for minimizingdefects and ensuring smooth steel production.

  • Customizing Flow Rates and Spray Angles
Our hydraulic nozzles are designed with customizable flow rates, enabling precise control of the cooling process to meet the specific demandsof each casting operation. With water flow rates ranging from 0.36 GPM to 49 GPM (1.6 to 183 LPM), our nozzles offer the flexibility required forboth precise spot cooling and broader surface cooling, ensuring that each section of the steel receives the optimal cooling intensity. In addition, the nozzles provide a variety of spray angles, ranging from 40° to 120°. These options, which include oval and full cone spray patterns, allow fortargeted cooling that improves thermal management and reduces the risk of surface defects.

The Benefits and Applications of Hydraulic Cooling Technology

Hydraulic cooling technology enhances the efficiency and quality of continuous casting through uniform cooling, reducing thermal stress, and preventing cracks and defects in steel. Adjustable spray angles and flow rates allow for customization to different steel grades and casting speeds, optimizing cooling for varied scenarios. Built from corrosion-resistant materials, hydraulic nozzles provide long-term performance with minimal maintenance. Additionally, their energy-efficient design reduces consumption and lowers operational costs.

Hydraulic cooling is versatile, applying to all stages of continuous casting, including slabs, billets, blooms, and beams. This ensures consistent cooling across broad surfaces during slab casting, while targeted cooling in billet and bloom casting addresses the specific thermal needs of smaller steel shapes, minimizing defects.
